Sunflower and Soybean Oil Imports Up in EU

In the period from July 1 to November 2 this year, the EU countries increased imports of vegetable oil by 3% – up to 2.39 million tonnes. Such data are presented in the report of the European Commission.

During the 4 months under consideration, the EU received 1.19 million tons of palm oil (-10% for the year), 781.6 thousand tons of sunflower oil (+22%), 245.3 thousand tons of soybean oil (+40%) and 173.7 thousand tons of rapeseed oil (-9%).

Most of all oils to Europe in the reporting period were imported from Ukraine – 854.8 thousand tons against 685.35 thousand tons from July 1 to November 2 last year. Significant volumes were also supplied from Indonesia, Malaysia and Guatemala – 424.6 thousand tons, 271.3 thousand tons and 167.8 thousand tons respectively. Another 135,000 tons were purchased from Argentina.

It should be noted that the key importer of sunflower and rapeseed oil from the beginning of the new agricultural year was Poland, which purchased almost 179 thousand tons and 43.4 thousand tons of these products, respectively. The main volume of soybean oil was sent to Spain – 97.3 thousand tons. Over 356 thousand tons of palm oil was delivered to Italy. Meanwhile, the Netherlands also received about 326.4 thousand tons of “palm” during the same period.
