The Export of Iranian Dried Apricots and Gheysi Increased in 2022/About 50 Percent

The export of Iranian dried apricots and Gheysi(Jumbo Dried Apricot) has increased by 37.8 percent in terms of weight and by 45.5 percent in terms of export value in 2022 compared to 2021. The most important export destinations of the mentioned crops in 2022 were Iraq, Azerbaijan, Russia, Turkey, Kazakhstan, Georgia, and Ukraine. More than half of the export of this product was to Iraq last year.

The export of Iranian dried apricots and Gheysi has risen significantly in 2022 compared to 2021. According to the Iran customs statistics, 3,005 tons of the mentioned products worth 6,857,541 USD were exported last year (2022). However, the export of dried apricots and Gheysi was 2,181 tons worth 4,712,180 USD in 2021.

The export of dried apricots and Gheysi increased by 37.8 percent in terms of weight and by 45.5 percent in terms of export value in 2022 compared to the previous year. The increase in the amount of production and the quality of the available product in 2022 caused the demand to rise compared to 2021. This issue increased the export of this product last year compared to 2021.

Price increased in direct proportion to demand

Also, this increase in demand caused a rise in the average price of each kilogram of Iranian dried apricots and Gheysi in 2022 compared to 2021. The average price of dried apricots and Gheysi exported by Iran was 2.28 USD per kg last year. However, the cost of these products was 2.16 USD per kilogram in 2021, which indicates a 5.6 percent increase in the average price of each kilogram of dried apricots and Gheysi exported by Iran in 2022 compared to 2021.

The most important customer of Iranian dried apricots and Gheysi was Iraq in the previous year. Almost half of these products were exported to this country in 2022. Last year, 1,558 tons worth 3,152,824 USD (2.02 USD per kilogram) were sent to Iraq. 52 percent by weight and 46 percent by Dollar value of the total export of dried apricots and Gheysi of Iran were allocated to this country in 2022. The export of dried apricots to Iraq is more than that of Gheysi. For this reason, the average price of each kilogram of dried apricots and Gheysi exported from Iran to Iraq is about 11.5 percent lower than the average export price of this product to other countries.

After Iraq, Azerbaijan was the most important export destination for Gheysi and dried apricots last year. 678 tons of these products worth 1,775,036 USD (2.62 USD per kilogram) were exported from Iran to Azerbaijan in 2022. About 22.5 percent by weight and 26 percent by Dollar value of export of dried apricots and Gheysi last year was allocated to this country. Unlike Iraq, the export of Gheysi to Azerbaijan has been more than dried apricots. For this reason, the average price of each kilogram of dried apricots and Gheysi exported by Iran to this country is about 15 percent more than the average export price of this product to other countries. Other important export destinations of the mentioned crops were Russia, Turkey, Kazakhstan, Georgia, and Ukraine in 2022.

The price of Iranian dried apricots and Gheysi has grown significantly in the domestic market of Iran. The cost of dried apricots has gone up due to the decrease in the inventory and supply of this product. This issue caused the price of this product to increase more in the world markets, despite the rise of about 25 percent in the exchange rate of foreign currencies against the Rial. Compared to the beginning of 2023, the price of Iranian Gheysi for export has risen by 1 to 1.5 percent, and the cost of Iranian dried apricots has increased by 5 to 5.5 percent in the world markets.
