Hayrettin Uçak, Deputy Coordinator President of the Aegean Exporters’ Associations of Türkiye (EİB), informed Anadolu Agency that the quota for tomato exports to Russia was increased from 350 thousand tons to 500 thousand tons and that they expect tomato exports to Russia to recover after this decision.
Uçak, who also serves as the president of the Aegean Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Exporters’ Association, said in a statement that the quota for tomato exports to Russia was increased from 350,000 tons to 500,000 tons after the last meeting between President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Russian Federation President Vladimir Putin.
Noting that a total of 377 million dollars worth of fresh tomato exports were made last year, Uçak said that the quota increase of 150 thousand tons strongly paved the way for tomato exports to Russia.
Stating that Türkiye was the leading country in Russia in tomato exports for many years, Uçak said that they have lost power in this market due to quota problems in recent years. “Our fresh tomato exports to Russia decreased from 68 million dollars in 2021 to 33 million dollars in 2022. After the latest decision, we expect our tomato exports to Russia to recover and this country to become the leader in exports again.”
