Farmers’ wait is over and President Erdoğan announced the purchase price of Sultani seedless raisins.

He said: “We do not victimize or deprive our farmer brothers. So last year it was 13 lira, right? Now, this year, we have made our evaluations with all our friends and, as a strong state and a strong farmer, we have determined our price as 27 liras.(1,49 USD)”

Reacting to the price of raisins announced by AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the Farmers Union (Çiftçi-Sen) said, “The announced price will not solve the problems of grape producers whose purchasing power has weakened, and will further enlarge the debt spiral.” In the written statement, it was noted that there was a one-hundred percent increase compared to the price announced last year, but against this increase, the increase in all agricultural inputs, from electricity, diesel, chemical fertilizers, pesticides, agricultural tools and tractors, was well above two hundred percent. The announced price will not solve the problems of grape producers, whose purchasing power has weakened, and will further enlarge the debt spiral.”

Turkey, which is the world leader in the production and export of seedless raisins, exports most of its production. According to the averages of the last 5 years, the production of seedless raisins produced on an area of 74 thousand hectares varies between 260 thousand tons and 320 thousand tons. An annual average of 40 thousand tons of this production is consumed domestically. The rest is exported. The countries to which Turkey exports the most are England, Germany, Netherlands, France and Australia.

The Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey lowered the policy rate from 14 percent to 13 percent last week. In this case, it caused the dollar to appreciate. This situation can cause prices to increase more in the country where the price of many products, from basic food to transportation, depends on the dollar.
