Türkiye Continues to Lead in Grain Imports From Russia

In the first half of 2023/2024 MY, Türkiye retained the position of the main importer of Russian grain, at the same time reducing the purchase of grain y-o-y, reports Interfax with reference to data from the Union of Grain Exporters of the Russian Federation.

In July-December 2023, Türkiye purchased 4.281 mln tonnes of grain from the Russian Federation, which is 12.7% lower y-o-y (4.903 mln tonnes).

Iran took the second place, displacing Egypt from this position. It purchased 3.902 mln tonnes of grain, up 4.9% y-o-y (3.718 mln tonnes). This increase was ensured by higher purchases of feed grain,” the report says.

Egypt, which closes the top 3, imported 2.956 mln tonnes of grain from Russia in the first half of the season, which is almost a quarter less than last year (3.923 mln tonnes).

The top five buyers also included Saudi Arabia, which increased purchases by 10.2% to 2.009 mln tonnes from 1.823 mln tonnes in the first half of last season, and Bangladesh, which – 1.966 mln tonnes, up almost 2.5 times y-o-y (793 thsd tonnes).
