Türkiye may significantly reduce imports of sunflower and sunflower products in the third quarter of this year, as the country has imposed duties on imports of crude sunflower oil for food purposes (36%) and sunflower seeds (27%) since 1 June. This forecast was voiced by experts of the Hamburg-based analytical agency OilWorld (Germany).
They also note that since the beginning of the 2022/23 season (September-June), Turkey has already received 945,000 tonnes of sunflower (456,000 tonnes in the same period of MY 2021/22), 1.18 million tonnes of sunflower oil (0.86 million tonnes) and 777,000 tonnes of sunflower meal (726,000 tonnes).
At the same time, according to experts’ data, in June this year, the reduction of imports of these products has already been recorded. Thus, imports of sunflower seed sagged to 87 thousand tonnes (168 thousand tonnes in May; 151 thousand tonnes in June 2022), sunflower oil to 86 thousand tonnes (269 thousand tonnes; 77 thousand tonnes), meal to 88 thousand tonnes (105 thousand tonnes; 60 thousand tonnes).
“The main suppliers of seed to the Turkish market in June were Ukraine (30,000 tonnes), Bulgaria (15,000 tonnes) and Romania (31,000 tonnes). As for sunflower oil, imports were made from Ukraine (40,000 tonnes), Russia (40,000 tonnes) and Bulgaria (5,000 tonnes). Sunflower meal was supplied by Russia and Ukraine – 70,000 tonnes and 18,000 tonnes, respectively,” OilWorld (Germany) said.
