Washington, May 31 News: The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s weekly national crop progress report released after the market on Monday showed that the U.S. soybean planting progress this year still lags behind the average progress of previous years and is also lower than market expectations.
In the 18 states that account for 96% of the country’s soybean acreage, as of Sunday, May 29, the U.S. soybean planting progress was 66%, 50% last week, 83% last year, and the five-year average for the same period was 67%. In the Midwest, soybean planting progress in Illinois is 75%, 62% last week, 88% last year, and 67% five-year average; 70% in Indiana, 50% last week, 84% last year, and 63% five-year average. 85% in Iowa, 69% last week, 92% a year ago, and a five-year average of 77%. As of Sunday, soybean emergence was 39 percent, compared with 21 percent last week, 59 percent a year earlier, and a five-year average of 43 percent.
