According to the monitoring data of the UK Agricultural and Horticultural Development Board (AHDB), as of August 29, winter wheat harvesting in 2023/24 crop year was carried out on 89% of the planned areas. This is higher than the result of the last 5 years (82%).
Support of drier weather
It is noted that the drier weather over the past two weeks allowed to achieve good results. Thus, the yield of harvested grain ranges from 7.8 t/ha to 8.2 t/ha, which is higher than the average level of recent years.
In addition, the country has completed harvesting winter barley with average yields ranging from 6.2 t/ha to 9 t/ha. As of the reporting date, 59% of the planned areas under spring barley were threshed (63% on average over the last 5 years) with yields of 5.5-5.9 t/ha.
At the same time, rapeseed harvesting has been completed, with yields estimated at 2.8-3 t/ha. The lower-than-expected oilseed yield is due to unfavorable weather conditions in some areas and significant pest damage in some regions.
