Ukraine will apply to WTO arbitration for compensation for damages for violation of the norms of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) in the event that Poland blocks the export of Ukrainian grain, reports Apkinform.
Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal wrote about this on Twitter. He emphasized that despite the war and Russia’s blockade of ports, Ukraine complies with its obligations both under the Association Agreement with the EU and under WTO law.
“We did not and do not intend to harm Polish farmers. We greatly appreciate the support of the Polish people and Polish families! But in case of violation of trade law in the interests of pre-election political populism, Ukraine will be forced to turn to WTO arbitration for compensation for damages for violation of GATT norms.” – wrote the Prime Minister.
As previously reported, Poland finally decided not to open its borders for the import of Ukrainian grain. Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki announced this on September 12.
