ODESA: In general, wheat prices in the Black Sea region in the first half of the 2021/22 season increased by 45%.
This came amid concerns about grain production and quality in the Northern Hemisphere. Russian restrictions and export duties for wheat also put pressure on prices.
At the same time, the wheat harvest in the Black Sea region in 2021 exceeded 108 million tons. Ukraine had record production (32.4 million tons).
From the beginning of the 2021/22 season, export quotations in main ports for Ukrainian milling wheat increased by $ 90 per ton to $ 310-315 per ton. Feed wheat – by almost $ 80 to $ 290-295 per ton.
Adverse weather conditions in Ukraine, which led to delays in harvesting and restraining sales by farmers, have become factors in rising prices. Logistical problems in Ukraine have complicated the situation on the grain market too. The shortage of wagons to deliver grain to ports has led to a significant increase in transportation costs.
