What Are Ukraine’s Perspectives if Russian Federation Withdraws From Grain Agreement?

Experts believe that Ukraine, together with the UN, will be able to unblock commercial shipping in the Black Sea if the Russian Federation withdraws from the grain agreement.

Russian government continued to threaten Ukraine with their withdrawal from the grain agreement. Considering this, Ukrainian experts are discussing the need to restore civil shipping in the Black Sea with the help of civilized countries and without the participation of the Russian Federation.

Ambassador of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Olha Trofimtseva wrote in her Telegram that there is a 99.9% probability that the Russian Federation will withdraw from the grain agreement. Russia has almost completed building the terminal for the export of ammonia, which will replace the Tolyatti-Odessa ammonia pipeline.

The head of the Center for Political Analysis, Volodymyr Golovko, believes that Ukraine, together with the international community, will be able to restore civil shipping in the Black Sea. It can happen even despite Russia’s withdrawal from the agreement. It is necessary to offer the African countries or China cooperation within the framework of their “peace formula” to ensure world food security. In addition to the UN and Türkiye, the grain initiative can include an international monitoring group made up of representatives of neutral countries. These countries will guarantee that civil vessels without military products enter and leave Ukraine. Military attacks on such vessels will be considered an act of international piracy and terrorism.

At the same time, US representative Kurt Walker called on NATO countries to respond militarily to attacks on commercial vessels in international waters by the Russian Federation.

We will remind you that on May 17, Ukraine, Türkiye, the UN and the Russian Federation agreed to extend the grain agreement until July 18, but the UN said that it never fully worked.
