According to FranceAgriMer monitoring, 59% of the planned areas have been planted with corn in France, compared to 44% a week earlier. However, despite the increased sowing rates, the current results are still lower than last year’s (81%) and the average of the last 5 years (75%).
It is noted that the significant delay in fieldwork is due to cool weather conditions and undrained soil. In addition, the reduction in livestock numbers may reduce the use of feed corn for feed by about 2% per year. Thus, experts assume a possible reduction of the grain planted area in the country.
As for the condition of grain crops in France, 93% of soft wheat , 88% of durum wheat, 92% of winter barley and 94% of spring barley are in good to excellent condition.
