SAMAN – According to the Agricultural Organization of Chaharmahal va Bakhtiari Province, it has won first place in irrigated almonds in Iran. Most of the almond exports from this province are to India.
At present, 16,000 hectares of the province are under the cultivation of irrigated almonds, and also 1,000 hectares are under the cultivation of rainfed almonds. The main almond orchards are located in Saman city. Annually, 24,000 tons of almonds are produced in this province. The main almond production cultivars in Chaharmahal va Bakhtiari province are Mamra, Rabi, Sefid, Sangi, and Shahroudi cultivars. 5,800 hectares of the area under almond cultivation in the province belongs to the Mamra cultivar. Mamra almond is the most famous almond type produced in this province and has a high currency income as it is widely be exported.
According to the statistics provided by the customs, the main almonds produced in Iran are exported from Bandar Anzali and Jolfa customs, and Mamra cultivar has a larger share in almond exports. According to the same report, the destination of Iranian almonds for export is mostly Russia and European countries. In contrast, the bulk of almonds are exported from Chaharmahal va Bakhtiari province to India. In addition, a limited amount of the province’s export almonds is Rabi cultivar.
In recent years, to face frostbite by Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari Agricultural Organization, Shahroudi cultivars, among the late-ripening almond cultivars, were distributed among gardeners. Still, farmers are more inclined to Mamra due to the higher price of Mamra cultivar, better sales market, and the possibility of exporting this product. The main part of almond exports in Chaharmahal va Bakhtiari province is in the form of raw materials.
By exploiting the specialized almond town in the province, a boom in production and employment will be seen. Certainly, the farmers and traders of the province will benefit from the capacity of almond production and processing in the province. The almonds produced in this province will be processed and exported under the province’s own brand.
