Due to the lack of financial resources among farmers, 20% less winter crops will be sown in Ukraine for the 2024 harvest than last year. This will lead to a reduction in wheat production next season.
Slow and expensive logistics
The situation with the sale of products is extremely difficult today due to slow and expensive logistics and low grain prices. It is especially difficult to export grain from the de-occupied regions. Even after selling the products, farmers cannot even make the most necessary expenses.
Farmers in Ukraine agree that the area under winter crops has definitely decreased. But they are now more worried about a more urgent problem — insufficient capacities for grain storage.
According to experts, whether there will be enough capacity for storage will depend on what exports will be like in the coming months and what the weather conditions will be. If exports do not improve after a few weeks, farmers will experience a lack of storage capacity.
Currently, 20 million tons remain in the fields, the most remaining is corn. According to forecasts, the harvest will continue for another two months, because it has rained a lot, and the harvesting campaign will be delayed.
