Seasonal Low in Freight Rates
Freight rates for transporting Ukrainian agricultural products over short distances by water have reached their lowest point of the season for voyages to Türkiye, Greece, and countries in the Eastern Mediterranean. This information was reported by Spike Brokers on June 12 via their Telegram channel.
Stable Situation for Handysize and Barge Shipments
According to experts, the situation remains stable for handysize and barge shipments. Freight rates for coasters transporting corn from Ukrainian Danube ports to Marmara and Eastern Greece have fallen by $1 per ton.
Current Market Rates for River Transportation
As of June 2, the market rates for river transportation are as follows:
- Izmail to Constanța, Romania: 9-10 euros (for 1-3 thousand tons)
- Izmail to Ruse/Silistra, Bulgaria: 15 euros (for 1-3 thousand tons)
- Izmail to Israel: $25-26 (for 5-7 thousand tons)
- Reni to Marmara, Türkiye: $15-16 (for 5-7 thousand tons)
Rates for Transportation from the Port of Chornomorsk
For larger voyages departing from the port of Chornomorsk, the rates are:
- To Bangladesh: $55-56 (for 60-65 thousand tons)
- To the eastern coast of Italy: $20-22 (for 30-35 thousand tons)
- To China: $54-56 (for 60-65 thousand tons)
The current seasonal minimum in freight rates provides a cost-effective opportunity for transporting agricultural products from Ukraine to key destinations in the Mediterranean and beyond. Stakeholders should consider capitalizing on these low rates to maximize their logistical efficiency and cost savings. As the market remains stable, keeping an eye on potential rate changes post-harvest season will be crucial for planning future shipments.
