In 2022, scientists at the Uzbekistan Research Institute of Vegetable, Melon Crops and Potato patented a new variety of garlic called “Zhanub”, which means “South”, and has a shorter ripening period compared to other varieties, according to EastFruit.

One of the main advantages of the new variety over others is that it has a fairly short ripening period – 200-215 days. In addition, the variety has a very good yield, large fruits with the number of bulbs (teeth) – 13 and fully meets the quality of modern market requirements. Regarding transportability and shelf life, good characteristics were also noted, commented the author of the variety “Zhanub”, a researcher at the Research Institute of Vegetable and Plant Crops and Potatoes Bakhodyr Salomov.

If you sow this variety as winter garlic in the first decade of September, the harvest can be harvested in the third decade of March – the first decade of April next year, that is, 20-25 days earlier than other varieties. Accordingly, this allows Uzbek exporters to enter foreign markets with a new harvest of garlic almost a month earlier than in normal terms.
