According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, in June, Australia exported 157.3 thsd tonnes of chickpeas (+136% for the month) and 158.9 thsd tonnes of lentils (-39%), Grain Central reported.
As noted, Pakistan became the largest importer of Australian chickpeas in June – 122.3 thsd tonnes, up from 53.1 thsd tonnes in May. In addition, Bangladesh imported 20.6 thsd tonnes of the Australian pulses (466 tonnes in May), and the UAE – 5.9 thsd tonnes (4.5 thsd tonnes).
Since the beginning of the current MY (October-June), Australia has exported 604.5 thsd tonnes of chickpeas, up 21% compared with 499.1 thsd tonnes in the same period of 2021/22 MY. The main importers are also Pakistan – 348.2 thsd tonnes, Bangladesh – 125.7 thsd tonnes and the UAE – 48.9 thsd tonnes.
The main importers of lentils from Australia in June were India (127.6 thsd tonnes) and Sri Lanka (27 thsd tonnes). Since the beginning of the season, Australia exported 1.299 mln tonnes of the pulses, up 84% compared to 707.5 thsd tonnes last season, including 620 thsd tonnes to India, 194.2 thsd tonnes to Bangladesh and 131.6 thsd tonnes to Sri Lanka.
