Since the start of the conflict in the Black Sea region in Bulgaria, the volume of oil production has begun to grow, which is primarily due to the increase in the purchase of Ukrainian sunflower. Yulia Garkavenko, leading analyst at the company UkrAgroConsult, told about this at the EURO GRAIN HUB Exchange & Forum 2023 in Bucharest.

Bulgaria covered all its processing capacity with Ukrainian sunflower. And now they are showing incredible figures for the export of vegetable oil and meal” he said.

According to the expert, Bulgaria has already replaced traditional Ukrainian markets with its oil. We are talking, above all, about the EU, where the country can actively sell its own fat and oil products.

I am very surprised that the Romanians did not take advantage of this situation. It should be noted that in Bulgaria the processing industry is developing, the sunflower and rapeseed processing capacities are constantly increasing, and there are new plants for the production of sunflower oil and biofuel, but in Romania, the situation is slightly different. There are no new large processing plants, and in general, Romanians are very slow in making decisions” says the expert. She also argues that despite the current situation Ukraine still remains the leader in the world trade of sunflower oil.
