Chia cultivation in Paraguay is expanding, attracting farmers of all sizes due to its profitability. Technological advances helped improve production, eliminating the use of chemical desiccants. Seed exports increased 34% during the period from January to May to 2024.
The crop is mainly cultivated in Canindeyú and expands to other areas due to suitable soil conditions. Although it is adaptable to different climates, it is important to note that climate risks, such as ice during winter, can affect production.

Among the types of exported tea are conventional, agroecological and organic varieties, with black tea being the most commercialized. In 2023, Paraguay exported 49,372,336 tons of tea for US$ 124.9 million to 64 countries, with the participation of 35 exporting companies, according to the Paraguayan Chamber of Sesame Exporters (Capexse).

Gilberto Osorio, president of Capexse, commented: “In Paraguay, the cultivation of tea has experienced significant technological advances, from mechanization to siembra to cosecha and trilla, eliminating the need for chemical desiccants and improving the quality of the product. This approach contributed to increasing both production and exports.”
