India is a country of spices, and Chilli is its heart. Indian Chilli plays a crucial role in domestic consumption and exports from India. The best quality chilli powder is also being exported from India in huge volumes.

Andhra Pradesh is the most significant source of Chilli from India for exports and domestic use. Telangana and Karnataka also have a crucial place in chilli production.

Current Scenario

Usually, in the winter season of India, chilli markets are always up.

Farmers have been getting good returns for chilli crops for the last three years. That’s why there is a constant increase in the harvesting of Chilli. But unseasonal rains have caused massive damage to chilli crops. Moreover, insects named Thrips have damaged the crop this year to almost half. The pest, which attacked nearly half of the four lakh acres of Chilli in Telangana, completely damaged the crop. Farmers had uprooted the plants in some areas, unable to tackle the pest. Production has reduced almost 40 to 50 percent. Spices Board of India is working to resolve this issue. They are trying to help the farmers and support them to come out of this loss.
