Pressure On Prices Due To Increased Arrivals

The coriander market is experiencing significant pressure due to heightened arrivals in major markets, particularly Ramganj, a significant hub in central producing states. This influx has led to sluggish sales, with little likelihood of price increases in the foreseeable future.

Production Projections and Weather Impact

At the onset of March, an industrial conference forecasted a decline in coriander production nationwide compared to the previous season. This forecast initially raised wholesale prices. However, subsequent increased arrivals, coupled with changing weather conditions, have reversed this bullish trend. Moreover, reports suggest varied sowing patterns across major producing regions, with Madhya Pradesh witnessing comparatively higher sowing while Rajasthan and Gujarat lag.

Trader Sentiments and Sales Trends

In the middle of this uncertainty regarding future sowing patterns, traders remain divided in their outlook. Some anticipate reduced sowing, and others remain sceptical. Nevertheless, limited sales by farmers persist, constraining the influx of coriander into central-producing states such as Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. In Ramganj Mandi, Coriander Badami is currently priced at approximately $0,78-$0,84 or €0,71-€0,76 per kg, with Eagle commanding around $0,85-$0,90 or €0,78-€0,83 per kg. Similarly, prices in Baran Mandi hover around $0,78-$0,84 or €0,71-€0,76 and $0,85-$0,90 or €0,78-€0,83 per kg for Coriander Badami and Eagle, respectively.

Price Trends and Export Statistics

Recent price fluctuations highlight the volatility of the coriander market. While prices experienced a decline, they had previously surged significantly. Coriander Badami witnessed a recent decline in the capital city’s wholesale market. Despite domestic market challenges, coriander exports have witnessed substantial growth, with 87,531.24 tonnes exported in the first nine months of the current financial year, compared to 32,449.43 tonnes in the corresponding period of the previous year.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the coriander market faces substantial pressure due to increased arrivals, leading to sluggish sales and minimal prospects for price hikes. Despite initial forecasts of reduced production and subsequent price increases, changing weather conditions and fluctuating trader sentiments have dampened market optimism. Limited sales by farmers further constrain the market, particularly in central-producing states like Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. Price fluctuations, both upward and downward, highlight the market’s volatility, while export statistics reflect significant growth. Continued monitoring and proactive measures will be essential to understand the challenges and sustain market stability in the coriander industry.
