Last week there was a constant rise in the price of the coriander across India’s all spot markets. According to market experts, the trend will continue, and the price is expected to increase quite significantly.
Factors Helping The Price
- In most spot markets, the new crop has started to arrive. Like in Gujarat, the new crops’ arrival is increasing every day. Last Saturday, the new crops arrived in a total of 50,000 bags.
- On the other hand, the old stock is almost over among the stockists.
- The arrival of old crops is decreasing significantly every day.
- The quality of the new products is good but not of exceptional quality. The moisture content is still there, though less than before, with the weather becoming hotter.
- In Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan, the crop quality is moderate, and the new crop is coming in less quantity than last year this time.
- Last year’s unseasonal rain has damaged the standing crops. Some crops experienced water content going high in the pods.
- There is also a delay in harvesting the crop. Due to this, the crops failed to ripe on time due to the waterlogging in the farming areas.
- There are also reports of discolored commodities arriving in the market.
- Adding to all these factors, the overall production of coriander has also decreased.
- Amidst all these factors, the demand for the spice is good, keeping the market up.
According to seasoned traders, this is an untimely increase in the price, and it might backfire later in the year. But some markets experts believe that price shooting up for the spice will continue.
However, it is mainly the stockists who are currently buying the commodity and putting it in the cold storage, not the small vendors and traders. Experts opined that it is this trend that is helping the market to stay northbound for the spice.
