Unicaps Sunflower seeds

“The production of sunflower seeds in 2023/24 my may be at the level of 1.6 million tons, which is 300 thousand tons less than last year’s figure. The soybean harvest will drop to 140 thousand tons from 145 thousand tons. The gross harvest of cotton will be reduced to 1.25 million tons from 1.6 million tons,” the USDA said.

As noted in the materials, the threat of a serious drought in Turkey can further affect the final production figures. According to the National Weather Service, the total rainfall from October 2022 to January 2023 was more than 40% below the average for the entire history of observations – this was the driest period for the country in about 60 years.

“It is expected that the increase in imports of sunflower seeds and soybeans partially compensates for the projected decline in oilseed production,” the USDA summed up.
