In the near future, Egypt will hold an international tender for the purchase of 40 thousand tons of vegetable oil (30 thousand tons of soybean oil and 10 thousand tons of sunflower oil), under the terms of payment by letter of credit on the spot or within 180 days. This is reported by market operators, citing information from the country’s state agency for food purchases GASC.
Under the terms of the tender, the oil must be delivered to the importer between June 25 and July 10, 2023. The closing of the tender is scheduled for Thursday (May 11).
In addition, GASC will also hold an internal tender for the purchase of vegetable oil (1,000 tons of soybean oil and 500 tons of sunflower oil). Delivery of these products should take place from July 1 to July 20, 2023.
Sunflower oil accounts for about half of the edible oil consumption in Egypt and is used daily by most households. Domestic production of sunflower is low, so private processors focus on imported raw materials.
