Most of the year’s produce has been consumed in the garlic market, and the arrival remains strong. There is no special income for the product in Gujarat, but in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan, it is about 80 to 90 times more this season. But the quality of the product is poor; hence the demand stays poor.
As a result, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan farmers still have plenty of garlic left. The arrival of garlic will continue till Diwali. Only the farmers will benefit if it is consumed at a high level.
This year the market price for garlic ranged between $0,07 and $0,50 per kg. However, currently, there is no bullish trend in the market for the spice since the arrival remains good amidst low buying activity.
The only chance of garlic price picking up is if the arrival in the spot markets drops.
So far, garlic traders have not stocked during the year. Last year many garlic stockists suffered a loss after stocking the products. As a result, they are no longer interested in stocking, and this is the first time in 20 to 22 years the condition of the garlic market is in the doldrums.
The demand for garlic export is also not there, and according to experts, it won’t happen anytime soon. The stock of dehydrated garlic has fallen from 12 thousand tonnes.
In Saurashtra, vast quantities of garlic are still with the farmers, and there is no demand for the product’s sale. The product’s sale will be based on the commodity’s price. If it stays high, the sale is likely to be less.
