Kazakhstan Imports Thousands Of Tons Of Flax From Russia

In May, Kazakhstan increased imports of oilseed flax by 34 times.

About 5 thousand tons of flax were imported to Kazakhstan in May 2022. Last year, oilseed imports increased 34 times in the same period and reached the maximum monthly value since February 2016.

Almost 10 thousand tons of flax have been imported to the Kazakh market since the beginning of the current season (September-May), a record figure for the entire history of observations.

“The three largest exporters of oilseeds have remained unchanged since last year – Russia, Canada and Germany. At the same time, of the 9.8 thousand tons imported by Kazakhstan since the beginning of the current season, more than 99% were purchased from Russia,” the report says.

According to analysts of IA “APK-Inform” forecasts, Kazakhstan will import about 1 thousand tons of flax by the end of the season: Thus, the procurement figures for this crop in 2021/22 MY are likely to be 11 thousand tons.
