Indian cumin export increased marginal in Jan-July, Drop in May-July period

Cumin seed export rose to 163,116 tons during January-July of the current year against 156,858 tons in the same period of last year, recording a growth of 4 per cent.

According to a data titled Indian seed spices export data 2020-21 released by the Federation of Indian spice stakeholders, steep fall in export recorded in May and June recording a fall of 36.59 per cent in May and 30.92 per cent in June. The drop continued in July also with narrowing in the percentage level.

During May, 19,453 tons were shipped as gainst 30,679 tons in the same month of last year. June recorded export to the tune of 28,650 tons as against 41,472 tons in June 2020. In July, 22,545 tons were exported as against 30,079 tons in the same month of last year.

Up to April, shipment increased gradually, and the export peaked at 33,204 tons in March against 18,459 tons in March 2020, recording a growth of 79.87 per cent. Total export during the year 2020 was 254,854 tons, according to FISS data.
