Iran Expects Record High Olive Harvest

In the current season, up to 200 thousand tons of olives can be harvested in Iran, which could be a record figure for the country in the entire history of observations. The harvest is in full swing right now. It is reported by the Olive Times.

Farmers from Zanjan, the largest region where they grow olives, expect to produce about 100 thousand tons of this crop, which is four times higher than the level of the previous MY.

In Qazvin province, the country’s second-largest olive-growing region, producers expect a harvest of 40,000 tons, the same as in previous seasons.

However, as specified in the materials, about half of all raw materials collected in Iran will be processed into olive oil. In the past MY, 10 thousand tons of finished products were produced in the domestic market, which is 0.4 thousand tons higher than the average value for five years. This time, this figure may increase by another 7 thousand tons, renewing the maximum.

The representative of the Iranian Ministry of Agriculture Javad Mir-Arab Razi expects that the growth of national production of olive oil can increase the volume of domestic consumption of the product by up to 18 thousand tons in the coming years.
