Prices Expected to Increase in Long Term

This year, the millet crop in Gujarat has been good. Despite unseasonal rains and pests affecting the crop, pest control measures have been effective. The summer millet crop is expected to be 10-15% higher than last year. Currently, the price of millet ranges from $0,29 per kg in Anand Nadiad line in Talod, and in Dehgam. The price of Sortex, which opened at $0,34 in Dehgam, has now decreased to $0,29. Millet income is currently strong at every center, including Disa-Palanpur, where prices range from $30,90 to $31,20 per quintal. Government procurement at $0,33 per quintal has been slow, causing some farmers to delay selling.

If sales increase further, there may be a slight decline of $0,30 to $0,60 per kg in the market. But this is not expected to be significant. The market is expected to fall for a short time but rise in the long term, with prices increasing by $0,24 to $0,36 per kg. This year, significant quantities of millet have been traded from Gujarat to Rajasthan, with good trade on the Barmer, Bikaner, and Jodhpur lines at $0,27 per kg. Some Rajasthan traders are stocking millet in warehouses in Disa. There is also strong business in Saurashtra, with good demand from stockists.

High-Quality Crop and Stable Demand Drive Market

The summer millet crop in Gujarat has been very good, with increased yield due to improved farming practices. Normally, 40-50 maunds of wheat used to be harvested per vigha, but this year 70-80 maunds have been harvested. Good quality millet is expected to fetch good prices for farmers. Millet income is strong at all centers, including Himmatnagar, Dehgam, Talod, Banaskantha, and Disa Palanpur line. In the open market, the price for 20 kg of millet ranges from $5,28 to $5,70. The price of bill running quality millet is $0,28 per kg, motor bill quality is $0,27 per kg, and green Bombay quality is $0,29 to $0,30 per kg.

Since the arrival of summer millet, prices have decreased by about $0,180 per kg, so further decline is unlikely. The millet market is expected to increase, with good quality prices in Himmatnagar Mandi expected to rise to $6,00, increasing by $0,36 to $0,60. Trade from Gujarat to Rajasthan is strong due to the good millet crop, with current prices in Rajasthan at $0,30 per kg. Income is expected to remain stable for the next 15 days, then decrease. Government procurement of summer millet at $6,72 per 20 kg is ongoing, but slow, affecting market availability.

Dairymen have not started buying millet yet, but Banas Dairy will begin purchasing millet for animal feed soon, with prices expected to open at $0,27 per kg. Due to the increase in maize prices, dairymen are turning to millet, which is available at $0,27per kg compared to maize at $0,30 per kg.

The millet market is set to rise due to a good crop and strong demand. Improved farming practices and controlled pests have contributed to a higher yield. While prices have seen a short-term decline, the long-term outlook remains positive, with expected increases in the coming months.
