Heilongjiang and Inner Mongolia in northeast China are the main kidney bean growing areas in China. Both regions account for more than 60 % of the country’s cultivated area and production. More than 80 % of the country’s exports come from these regions.

In the case of black kidney beans, the area under cultivation has been greatly reduced in recent years. The government’s subsidy policy encouraged farmers to grow more maize and soya. As a result, kidney bean prices are rising more than $600/mt year on year to the current $1280/mt. Currently, the market is relatively stable as export demand is still very low.
