The representatives of Ukraine, Russia, Türkiye and the UN, following the negotiations held on May 10-11 in Istanbul, did not reach a final agreement on the extension of the Black Sea Grain Corridor according to the press service of the Turkish Ministry of Defense on May 11.
As noted, useful meetings with constructive approaches of the parties took place during two days. Turkish Minister of Defence in his speech stated that more than 30 million tons of grain has been shipped to countries in need through the Grain Corridor, “What does this mean? It means preventing hunger and maintaining stability.”
Akar, recalling the 4-way format meeting held in Istanbul between the deputy defense ministers of Türkiye, Russia and Ukraine and United Nations officials, said: “Within the scope of the first information received, the meeting in Istanbul was positive. We are moving towards an agreement on extending the period of the grain agreement. However, we have commercial ships in Ukrainian ports. They said that a framework agreement was reached on the safe return of 6 ships to our country. We continue our work in this direction,” he said.
The “grain agreement” expires on May 18.
