Food prices in Poland will rise again in 2023. The peak is predicted before Easter. The lion’s share of the rise in price is caused by prices for Ukrainian grain during the war.
This was stated by the head of the Grain-Feed Chamber from the “Poland 2050” Movement Monica Piatkowski on RMF FM.
According to the specialist, during the year, food prices in Poland, increased by an average of 23%, but this is not the limit.
“Everything will become more expensive. Fats, dairy products or bread. Before Easter, this growth will accelerate due to higher energy and gas prices. The increase can be 30-35%,” says Monika Pyatkovska.
According to her, a loaf of bread can cost 8-10 zlotys (1,70-2,13 EUR), buns – 5 zlotys (1,06 EUR).
“Small and medium-sized stores and family businesses have the biggest problems. Bread in the bakery at a price of about 10 zlotys is the norm. A bun for five zlotys is also an everyday thing. As for the availability of products, there are absolutely no problems. There will be no shortage of these products on store shelves,” she assured.
However, she added that although there will be no shortage of food, its availability to certain segments of the population may be at risk due to high prices.
“Our grain prices grew in a completely non-market and uncontrolled way during Russia’s aggression against Ukraine. Grain prices are based on prices on world exchanges. On the stock exchanges jumped. Later they fell, and today we see a decrease in grain prices, but an increase in feed prices. Paradox. And meat prices are rising. Why? Inflation, labor costs. This year there will be a minimum wage, fertilizers… And if the price of feed is higher, then the meat will be more expensive,” added the head of the Grain Feed Chamber.
