PRAGUE – The traders and processors are reporting a calm interval in poppy seeds business. The situation might be charcterised as business as usual. Poppy price looks to be stabilized at 1.95 EUR/kg and there is currently no sign that something could change this status quo.
In Hungary the sowing of the winter crop is already finished. In the past weeks the arrived rains proved vital for germination of the seeds. Now the fields are in good condition and they are waiting for the winter.
The current cultivated poppy seed fields are estimated around 9000 hectare, which is similar to the past season. As only food quality poppy seed was sowed, the industrial poppy seed production is over in Hungary.
