Farmers in all EU countries can collect around 18.2 million tonnes of rapeseed by the end of 2022. This forecast was published by the analysts of the consultancy Strategie Grains in their report, raising the previous estimate by 0.2 million tonnes.
If the experts’ expectations are justified, the final figures for the gross rapeseed harvest may exceed the 2021 results by 7.4% – 16.95 million tonnes.
“Rapeseed prices on the Euronext exchange in Paris have risen sharply over the past year, making autumn planting more attractive to farmers. In the summer of 2021, the record value of 530 euros per tonne was exceeded, after which the price soared, rising to 800 euros at the beginning of January. Over the year, rapeseed rose by 80 per cent,” says Commerzbank analyst Carsten Fritsch.
The rapeseed price is now around 100 Euros below this high but is still at a very high level.
It is worth noting that analysts from the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) most recently forecast the rapeseed harvest in the EU at 17.35 million tonnes.
