INDIA – Higher supply of summer sesame crop amid sluggish demand creates panic in the Indian sesame market.

The new crop sesame seeds arrivals are continuously increasing in the markets of India. There has been good crop production of white and black sesame seeds in this summer season. Demand from local markets and stockists is very sluggish.

There is no possibility of a boom or hike in the white and black sesame seeds market or the recent coming days as per sesame brokers. The main reason behind it is abundant production and arrivals; on the contrary, demand is 70 to 80 per cent down compared to last year due to the Covid-19 Pandemic.

Around 14.000 bags of sesame arrive in the market daily, and the prices are estimated between $970 – $1105 for white sesame. As monsoon started in Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh states, the Kharif sesame sowing started slow and expected to rise because the government hiked 6% minimum support prices for sesame seeds.
