South America Received Heavy Rains Last Week

Farmers in Argentina received heavy rains last week that benefited oilseeds and grain crops. The country is now experiencing one of its worst droughts in decades.

According to WeatherTrends360, areas northwest of Buenos Aires received the heaviest rainfall during the period in question. It was also one of the rainiest weeks of January in 30 years for the province of Salta.

“However, crops in Argentina will need more rainfall to ease the impact of the drought across the country,” the report said.
Meanwhile, central Brazil recorded a trend of heavy downpours. In Mato Grosso, it was one of the rainiest weeks of January since the end of the last century.

“Rainfall this season has been favorable for crop development. However, a break in the rainy weather would help speed up the soybean harvest,” the materials noted.

There was less rain in areas closer to the south. Hot and dry weather conditions in some regions are likely to jeopardize the yield of a number of crops.
