ODESA: The Ministry of Transport of Spain has launched a pilot project to transport grain by rail from Ukraine to Spain as an alternative to the sea routes.

The railway operator Renfe Mercancías has already sent 25 40-foot containers (equipped with large special bags for transporting grain) to the border of Ukraine in Poland to transport 600 tons of Ukrainian corn to Spain.

This is a pilot transportation, with the help of which the ministry will see the technical and economic feasibility of rail transportation of grain by rail from the Polish city of Lodz to Barcelona.

The Spanish train will arrive to Ukraine at the end of August. There, the grain will be reloaded into containers for further transportation to the terminal in Łódź. After loading the containers, the train will return to the terminal in Barcelona in early September, from where the grain will be delivered to the final customers.
