In the 2022/23 marketing year, more than 10.65 million tonnes of sunflower seeds can be produced on the territory of the EU states. This forecast was published by the analysts of the consultancy Strategie Grains in their report after they had raised their previous estimate by almost 0.5 million tonnes.
If the experts’ expectations are justified, the final indicators of EU oilseed production will rise by 2.9% in the coming season compared to the 2021/22 MY estimate.
“The main reason for the increase in the forecast for the oilseed crop was the revision of the area estimate to 4.68 million hectares from 4.47 million hectares which was also expected to be 6.5% higher than last year. In turn, the yield of sunflower seeds in 2022/23 could decline by 3.4% to 2.28 t/ha compared to that in 2021/22 “, the report said.
The estimate of rapeseed production in the EU in 2022/23 was lowered to 18.15 million tonnes (+6.8% compared to 2021/22). The forecast for the gross harvest of soybeans remained unchanged at 2.9 million tonnes (+8.4%).
“The sown area and yield of rapeseed are estimated at 5.68 million hectares (+7.9%) and 3.2 t/ha (-1%) respectively, soybean at 1.01 million hectares (+5.6%) and 2.89 t/ha (+2.6%)” analysts specify.
