After a hot week with forest fires overall in the country, Turkey has entered a cooler week with temperatures around 37C. The harvest and the export of fresh grapes have started in Turkey as mentioned, and also the harvest for dried sultana raisins shall begin within one week, the latest part by part. Farmers and exporters are still waiting for the announcement by the government about the crop size and the base price for dried sultana raisins which is unfortunately still not published yet. This is why different figures from 240.000 up to 300.000 mt crop size are spoken in the market nowadays.

TMO has bought approx 60.000 mt tons of sultana raisins last year and sold approximately 40.000 mt during the previous two months to exporters. Market players stated that exporters purchased raw material from TMO to enter later in the new season and did not start to buy immediately at the beginning of the Season to monitor at least what the prices are going to be for the new crop.

Farmers, however, expect at least 16 TL/kg meanwhile for their products since they state that their growing costs have increased hugely since last year. Market players expect a base price of around 13-14TL/kg. Market players are in the meaning that if the rumours that TMO will not buy dried raisins from the stock market from next year are true, it will create severe chaos in these markets.

The official crop size was announced last year as 271.000 mt, but the total registered amount has reached 315.000 mt, meaning a difference of approx—20% more products than announced. The exporters still offer at 1600-1650 Usd/mt on a FOB basis for type nr.9, crop 2021, and some have also started offering organic sultana raisins type nr.9 at 2200 Euro/mt levels (Approx 2600 USD/mt).

The fluctuations in the TL continue. The TL is changing rapidly. The Usd/TL rate is at 8.63TL ( 8.35 last week) and Euro/TL rate at 10.17 TL levels ( 9.92TL previous week). The total exports until 7 August 2021 were 208.288 mt, being 234.169 mt last year during the same period. Turkey exported 4609 mt of sultana raisins last week, being 2306 mt during the same week of the previous Season.
