This week, Russia continued heavy rocket attacks on Ukraine’s civilian infrastructure, causing power outages and shutting down many businesses, including oil-cutting plants. Interruptions in the work of oil extraction plants and unstable ship calls to the Black Sea ports reduce the volume of sunflower processing, which does not allow prices to reach a maximum caused by low harvest.
Sunflower purchase prices increased
Over the week, purchase prices for sunflower in Ukraine increased by 500-1000 UAH/t to 16000-17200 UAH/t or $440-470/t with delivery to the plant, but a small number of processors make purchases. Producers are now busy harvesting corn, almost 35% of which is still in the fields. So there are no sunflower offers from them, which leads to higher prices.
Low harvest in Ukraine and Russia has not yet taken effect
Export demand prices for sunflower seeds with delivery to Romania, Hungary, Bulgaria decreased to 540-560 $/t. Demand prices for sunflower oil fell to $1120-1180/t DAP Poland and Bulgaria, which increases the pressure on sunflower prices. The low sunflower harvest in Ukraine and Russia has not yet led to an increase in sunflower oil prices, as importers prefer cheaper palm oil.
