Czech authorities have to destroy 220 thousand chickens at a poultry farm where bird flu was detected last week. This is the largest outbreak of the disease in the country. The bird flu was reported at a farm located 150 km west of Prague.

The State Veterinary Administration of the Czech Republic (SVS) said that since the inspections revealed the infection in only one of the buildings (three buildings house 750 thousand chickens), the majority of the flock can be saved.

Also on January 3, another case of bird flu was registered on a farm 68 km south of Prague, where 12 thousand chickens and 1 thousand turkeys will be slaughtered.

Also, 19 thousand chickens will be destroyed in Bulgaria due to the outbreak of bird flu. This is the third outbreak of bird flu at a poultry farm in the village of Kryve Pole near the town of Haskovo over the past three years.
