The new crops of black pepper have started arriving minorly in Kerala. However, the arrival of new crops of black pepper is only visible in the state’s big domestic shops like Kochi. With the arrival of new crops, there is pressure on the price of black pepper on the spot.

Buying directly from farmers

The number of deals for exports in the domestic market is reported to be significantly less as the buyers procure it directly from the farmers. The supply of pepper from central-producing states like Karnataka and Kerala remained tighter than usual due to adverse weather conditions in the past. However, now the weather has been reported to be clear and warm.

Along with the new crop, imports of this major grocery commodity from Vietnam are also underway. Earlier, the government had started cracking down on imported pepper. Due to this strictness, there was a slight increase in pepper due to the possibility of disrupting the supply of black pepper in the domestic markets.

Sluggish market

Direct trading of significant commodities, including pepper, has increased in Kerala for the past few years. This is why the work activities in different domestic markets of the state have remained sluggish.

Black Pepper supply reported up in the Kochi spot market in January compared to the previous month as stockists and planters were releasing their produce as spot prices reported up compared to last year’s same period. However, overall supply from other producing countries, primarily Vietnam and Brazil, to the international market may impact Indian export volume. To end things, market experts opine that there is no possibility of long bullishness in black pepper in the coming days.

The Pepper black 550 g/l prices were Recorded at $6,60 per kg FOB.
