The prices of white sesame are decreasing slowly due to the arrival of new crops in Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh. There is no possibility of any significant fall in the price of sesame as India has got a big order of 12 thousand tonnes in the last tender of South Korea. At present, 600 to 800 bags (80 kg) of new white sesame crop are arriving daily in the Gujarat market, which will increase to two to three thousand sacks per day from next week.

According to sesame analysts, the summer crop production is around 0,125 to 0,150 million tonnes. In comparison, white sesame production is expected to be 0,120 to 0,130 million tonnes, and black sesame is expected to be 20 to 30 thousand tonnes.

Very little chance of a reduction in the price of ‘White Sesame’ from $1,29 per kg

Presently in Saurashtra, the crop size will not be much less than last year due to favorable weather for summer sesame. In Saurashtra, Morbi, Surendranagar, and Dhrangadhra, cultivation has decreased, and due to the non-availability of water from canals, the yield is also likely to fall.

At present, most turmeric factories do not have stock due to the availability of solid sesame seeds. However, in West Bengal, there was water scarcity when sesame was cultivated, and at present, the crop condition is terrible due to shortage. If the summer crop is ready, it will be sold soon due to the fear of rain. The pressure on earnings will increase for some time, but the prices will not last much because, at present, the demand is perfect due to the high costs of edible oils. The price of white sesame is less likely to fall. The price may come down to $1,16 per kg, but it is not expected to fall further.

So the demand for sesame has decreased significantly as the production of the finished product has reduced by 50 percent. The stock is currently reported to be 0,325 million tonnes, the highest ever in port.

The peak arrival of the new summer crop in Gujarat will be between May 20 and June 20, during which daily arrival can increase to 20 to 25 thousand sacks. Income pressure will increase, and white sesame can reduce by $0,04 to $0,06 per kg.

In Gujarat, summer sesame has been sown in 0,108 million hectares, taking into account the yield of 1200 kg per hectare, then 1,29. The summer crop is estimated to be 16 million bags (80 kg each) of million tonnes, in which 80 to 85 percent white sesame and 15 to 20 percent black and golden yellow sesame will be produced.

The condition of the summer crop in Gujarat is excellent. The production of sesame is expected to be 0,140 million tonnes in the present situation, but if it rains before June 10, the price of white sesame per kg might increase by $ 0,13 per kg. Some weather experts have predicted rain in Gujarat during May 19-20. The stock of old sesame is expected to be 7 to 8 thousand tonnes across the country, including 1500 to 2000 tonnes in Gujarat, 1000 to 1500 tonnes in Rajasthan, and 1500 to 2000 tonnes of old sesame in Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh expected to be in stock.
