Turkish Apricots: Figures Are Pleasing

Spread the news!

The amount of products stored in the licensed warehouse established in Malatya, where a significant part of the world’s dried apricot production is made, is increasing.  Turkey’s first Licensed Dried Apricot Warehouse provides the opportunity to store products in a hygienic and air-conditioned environment.  The interest of the manufacturers in the warehouse is increasing day by day.  The amount of products entrusted here increased by 20 times in July this year compared to the same month of the previous year.

Ali Çakar, Licensed Dried Apricot Warehouse Branch Manager, stated that the product is stored at a certain temperature in the warehouse, and said, “The producers bring sulphurous and natural dried apricots to the warehouse. Sulfurized apricots are being preserved at 12 degrees Celsius at 50-60 percent relative humidity, and natural apricots at 8 degrees at 50-60 percent relative humidity. In July last year, around 100 tons of dried apricots were left in the warehouse.  Approximately 2 thousand tons of dried apricots were brought in July this year.  We expect the figure to exceed 3,500 tons by the end of the season.”

Competing with seedless raisins from time to time with its export performance in the 2021/22 season, dried apricots fell from 87 thousand tons to 80 thousand tons with a decrease of 7 percent on quantity basis compared to the 2020/21 season. Despite the decrease in the amount, since Turkish dried apricots were exported at a higher price in the 2021/22 season, the amount of foreign currency obtained increased by 29 percent from 291 million dollars to 375 million dollars. While Turkey exported 57.3 million dollars of dried apricots to the United States, France demanded 36 million dollars of Turkish apricots.  While England ranked third with its dried apricot exports of 21.6 million dollars, our dried apricot exports to Australia and Brazil exceeded 17 million dollars.
