Apricot harvest continues in Malatya, which meets 85% of the world’s dried apricot production. While the collection of products from the tree ends at low altitudes, the collection process continues at higher altitudes.
“We will definitely achieve our target”
Malatya Commodity Exchange (MTB) President Ramazan Özcan said, “The harvest period of 2022-2023 has started for about 25 days. In regions where the altitude ends at 650-1000, the producers gathered the crops from the tree. It continues with sulphurization and core removal. Harvest has just begun in regions with an altitude of between 1.100 and 1.700. This year, there is a delay in the crop due to climate changes. Therefore, we are experiencing a decline in exports in July, partially. When we look at last year, there is a decrease in the amount of 10 thousand tons of exports, but when we look at our export revenues, we are about 25 million dollars ahead of last year,” he said.
He also added,” Malatya is determined, together with its producers, traders, exporters, and the public, we will definitely achieve the target of 500 million dollars in exports this year.”
