As temperatures approach 40 degrees in Turkey this week, with the warm air in Europe entering the country, this makes it difficult to breathe.
Apricot harvest continues with 20 thousand seasonal workers in Malatya under intense heat. Apricots, whose weight varies between 80 and 140 Turkish Liras according to their quality, are expected to yield 336 thousand 782 tons this year.
According to the information compiled from Malatya Commodity Exchange data, Malatya apricot continues to make people smile with its export income.
Exporters from Malatya increased their income by 19 percent despite sending fewer products compared to last year. 32 thousand tons of apricots were exported this year, generating $167 million dollars in revenue. However, in the January-June period of last year 141 million dollars were obtained in return for 41 thousand tons of products.
In the first half of this year, dried apricots were sold to 115 countries including the USA, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, Australia, Brazil, the Netherlands, Russia, Canada and Egypt.
“We aim to complete our exports with a pleasing figure”
Ramazan Özcan, Chairman of Malatya Commodity Exchange, said, “The export figures for June are very pleasing because although there is a short time left for the new crop, the export figures in June are important. Our export revenue is well above the average of last year. Hopefully, we aim to complete our exports in July and to complete the year 1 August 2021-1 August 2022, which we call the season, with a pleasing figure. We insist on exporting 500 million dollars.”
When we look at the foreign currency, the Dollar and Euro continue to appreciate against the Turkish Lira. The Usd/TL rate at £17.85 (17.54 last week) and Euro/TL rate at £18.26 levels (17.83 last week).
According to Aegean Exporters’ Associations data, between 17.07.2022 and 23.07.2022, Turkey exported 94 tons of dried apricots with an average price of 6,05 dollars/ton. Since the beginning of the season, it has exported 24.701,64 tons of dried apricots with an average price of 5,10 dollars/ton.
