Turkish Dried Figs: Preparations Continue

The first fresh fig of the season started to appear on the counters.  While the first fresh fig of the season took its place on the counters in Tire-İzmir, the producers stated that they were quite satisfied with the prices in the market.  Producers stated that the fig known as ‘Sarı Lop( Calimyrna)’ is sold on average between 40-50 liras per kilo and said, ‘We are generally satisfied with the prices’.

Aegean Dried Fruits and Products Exporters’ Association President Mehmet Ali Işık, who stated that there are about 2 months left for the season in dried figs, stated that their preparations for the 2022/23 season are continuing intensively and said, “We don’t wait a decrease in the yields of seedless raisins, dried apricots and dried figs in the 2022/23 season. Product quality is also suitable for export.  We aim for an export increase of 10-15 percent in three products and an export amount of 1 billion 250 million dollars.”

The export figures of dried figs, which are one of the important export products of Turkey and make a significant contribution to the country’s economy, reached 232 million dollars in 2022.

In Aydın, where the world’s best quality figs are grown, the figures for the 2021/22 export season gave hope for dried figs, which is an important export product.  In the 2021/22 export season, which started on October 6, 2021, of dried figs, also known as the “fruit of paradise”, 62 thousand tons were exported until July 30, 2022.  Dried fig exports, which were 230 million dollars in the same period of the previous season, reached 232 million dollars in this export season.  France took the top spot in dried fig exports with an amount of 31.4 million dollars, while Germany became the summit partner with a demand of 30.8 million dollars of Turkish dried figs.  Country exported 30.3 million dollars of dried figs to the United States.  These countries were followed by Italy with $14.2 million and Canada with $12.5 million.

Turkish Lira remained the same as last week and the Usd/TL rate at 17,96 TL (17,94 last week) and Euro/TL rate is at 18,32 TL levels (18,43 last week).
