According to the results of July – early November 2022, Ukraine ranks first among the five largest suppliers of wheat to the EU countries. Exports of Ukrainian grain to the EU amounted to 1.5 mln tonnes, which is significantly higher than last season (188 thsd tonnes).

Andrii Kupchenko, announced such data in his report at the international conference “Asia Grains & Oils Conference in Qazaqstan 2022” in Astana.

He specified that the top 5 largest suppliers of wheat to the EU also include Great Britain (379 thsd tonnes compared to 155 thsd tonnes last season), Canada (179 thsd tonnes compared to 49 thsd tonnes), Moldova (113 thsd tonnes and 86 thsd tonnes respectively) and Serbia (110 thsd tonnes compared to 164 thsd tonnes last season).

Barley and corn

Ukraine also significantly increased supplies of barley and corn to the EU – up to 270 thousand tons and 4 million tons respectively (last season these figures were much lower – 4 thousand tons and 1.2 million tons). Thus, Ukraine ranks second in the ranking of suppliers of these types of grain to the EU countries, Kupchenko said.

Recall that the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) predicts that world grain production in 2022 will amount to 2 746 million tons, which is 1.8% less than in 2021. Wheat production is expected at 783.8 million tons, which is a historical high.
