ODESA: in Ukraine, since the middle of last week, prices for sunflower seeds started to decline.
This situation can be explained by the downward price trend in the unrefined sunflower oil export market. In the December report, USDA estimates the gross yield of sunflower seeds in Ukraine in 2021/22 MY at 17.5 million tons (+0.5 million tons to the previous forecast). Sunflower oil production forecast is 7.289 million tons (+172 thousand tons).
As of the reporting date, prices in ports fell to the level of 19.000-19.500 UAH/t. The number of offers has also increased and put pressure on prices. Farmers are keen to sell some of their stocks before new year eve, as a long holiday break is expected in the first half of January 2022. Manufacturers are in no hurry to significantly replenish their stocks, expecting a more significant fall in prices.
