Rudbar walnuts are of very high quality. The area under walnut cultivation is more than 2,000 hectares in this city. This year, the amount of walnut production is more than 5.000 tons in Rudbar city.
According to the Agricultural Organizations of Rudbar city in Gilan province, there are 2.071 hectares of walnut orchards in this city. 821 hectares of walnut orchards are rainfed, and 1.250 hectares are irrigated in Rudbar. The average production of walnuts per hectare is 2.500 kg. This year, more than 5.000 tons of walnuts have been harvested from the gardens of Rudbar city due to the drought and crop stress.
The quality of Rudbar walnuts is famous in the province. This product has many customers in other cities of Iran. They also come to Rudbar markets from neighbouring countries, including Iraq, to buy walnuts. Grafting is done to improve the trees to increase the gardens resistance against frost, which is a practical step in sustainable production and high-quality product. Grafting and crown replacement of walnut trees has been done in 5 hectares of walnut orchards in the city.
Among the measures that have increased the quality of walnuts in this city is the distribution of improved seedlings and micronutrient fertilizers to strengthen walnut orchards. Most of the trees in Rudbar walnut orchards are early-yielding types. In recent years, the late spring frosts have caused significant damage to the city’s gardeners. For this reason, the gardens of this city need to be improved in terms of types.
Over the past month, the price of Iranian walnuts has risen because of increasing domestic demand due to the ancient Yalda night in Iran. Also during this period, the export demand for this product increased slightly, which led to a rise of 8.5 to 11 per cent in the price of this product in global markets compared to last month.
